The Lord’s Prayer

by Colin Dexter

In a letter delivered to every Church in England, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York wrote:

“It is impossible to overstate the life-transforming power of the Lord’s Prayer. It is a prayer that is reassuring enough to be on the lips of the dying and yet dangerous enough to be banned in cinemas. It is famous enough to be spoken each day by billions in hundreds of languages and yet intimate enough to draw us ever closer into friendship with Jesus Christ.”

So, inspired by the simple, yet powerful words of the Lord’s Prayer, the Church of England are inviting communities to join together and pray for God’s kingdom to come in this nation.

“THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE”

Thy Kingdom Come is encouraging Churches to join together with a specific prayer: For every Christian to receive new confidence and joy in sharing their faith. It’s an incredible opportunity to join together and pray for transformation.

A story from Eritrea

by Colin Dexter

T:   “While I was in jail I met some Christians who were in prison for their faith. I watched them to see how they behaved and how they talked. There was something about them that attracted me, and I began to talk to them.

‘At that time I was very lonely and empty. One of the believers lent me their Bible and I started to search for God. I read the Bible every day looking for answers and as I did this I realised that I was not living a holy life. In that dark and dirty prison cell God touched my heart, and I gave my life to Him.'”  (Release)

Prayer

by Colin Dexter

Prayer is more about making time and space to commune with God than it is about what you do or say. God can guide, speak, and give you his presence if you simply make space for him to do so. Don’t let a feeling of insecurity, doubt, or lack of knowledge keep you from talking with God. He delights in the simplicity, vulnerability, and honesty of you just wanting to talk with him.

The Assembly of the Council of Europe Recognizes the “Genocide” of Christians and other Religious Minorities

by Colin Dexter

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a Resolution on Wednesday 27 January 2016 condemning the crimes of the “Islamic State”:

States should act on the presumption that Da’ish commits genocide and should be aware that this entails action under the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.”

The Assembly went even further when recalling that: under international law States have a positive obligation to prevent genocide, and thus should do their utmost to prevent their own nationals from taking part in such acts.”

Created for?

by Colin Dexter

You were created to enjoy God. The Westminster shorter catechism says, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” David wrote in Psalm 16:11, “You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” We were designed to seek enjoyment in God. We were made to delight ourselves in his goodness, his provision, the wonders of his creation, and the simplicity of his unconditional love.

Do You believe this?

According to my original prognosis, which hasn’t been revised, I have a maximum of 18 days left on planet earth (though I fully intend to make a nonsense of that). So how would you spend your last 18 days? For me, it is family, obviously; a bit of cricket, tennis and footy; and helping followers of Jesus to share their faith with others, through training at 2 New Wine festivals, and writing new material which is more accessible to a wide range of people. After all, eternity lasts a lot longer than the longest life on earth!
