CAP (Christians against Poverty)

by Colin Dexter

So far this year CAP UK helped 1,005 people become debt free. We think each and every one of them deserves a cheer! 🎉-CAP is on a mission to equip people with the skills and support they need to break free from poverty. No matter how bad things might be, there’s always hope.-So if you know someone who could use help getting out of debt, let them know they can call us for free on ☎️ 0800 328 0006☎️.-When our Debt Coaches first visit a new client’s home, they aren’t just there to offer our award-winning debt counselling service.-If the cupboards are empty, they can access emergency food deliveries. If the client needs a friendly face to talk to, who understands their situation, volunteer befrienders are ready to step in.💪-The care offered by our Debt Centres is holistic, which is why we’re able to see so many lives completely changed.

CAP

by Colin Dexter

CAP stands for Christians Against Poverty. CAP is a charity offering free debt counselling here in the UK to whoever needs it (no need to be a Christian – that’s a common misconception.)👍-All their services are run through local churches, meaning they are able to pair each person up with someone in their local area. The churches are then able to support them through the debt help process (collecting paperwork, etc) as well as offering emotional and practical support where requested / needed

CAP REPORT 2020

by Colin Dexter

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted each of our lives in a significant way, yet sadly, many have experienced disproportionate levels of hardship. Even before the pandemic, we(CAP) knew that people in debt were struggling on a low income, going without food, experiencing poor mental health, and feeling isolated.

2020 is no different, in the report we found:

  • 84% of CAP clients have an income lower than the national average.
  • 62% borrowed money to pay another bill or debt.
  • Household peak debt hit a record high of £17,917.
  • 58% said that they had nobody to turn to when they had a problem.
  • 28% of CAP clients had considered or attempted suicide as a way out of debt.

You can read the report here.

However, thanks to amazing Frontline and Head Office staff, we have still been able to see people become debt-free in the midst of these difficult times and long may it continue!-Are you feeling like P? If so, don’t hesitate to give CAP a call on 0800 328 0006

CAP is a debt counselling charity. That means that when someone is struggling with their debts, they can come to it and they will take on all the paperwork and phonecalls on your behalf. If a creditor calls someone who is under our care, that person just needs to point the creditor in the direction of CAP and they negotiate on your behalf.-

And of course it’s free – no charge for people for using the services.-Please – if you know anyone who is struggling with money, send them the phone number – 0800 328 0006.

All of us have in some way been affected by the COVID-19 situation. It may seem that life is on hold or your situation is getting worse. Agapé Community Church Ty – Sign in partnership with the international charity Christians Against Poverty are launching Kick Start. A series of bite sized video sessions to help people move forward in life.
We will be kicking off, if you pardon the pun, with a series about Looking after our Mental Health and Wellbeing. Four sessions over 4 weeks.
Every day, we face all sorts of pressure and challenge. This can seriously impact our mental health, which in turn can feed negative habits and cause even more pressure.
Now more than ever, it is vital that we prioritise our wellbeing and look after ourselves.
These sessions will help to equip you to deal with anxiety and worry, financial pressure, habits and grief and loss in a healthy way.
Each session will be held via Zoom and will be 40 mins in length. Starting on Tuesday August 25th at 7.30pm and for the following 3 Tuesday evenings.
To sign up or for more information please email me at johnpinkstone@capuk.org
Also coming up over the next few months we will also be looking at “How to take control of our finances” and “How to find a job”. So, watch this space.
