No Other Book

by Colin Dexter

No other book has ever kept me up through the hours of the night like this one. Its high-explosive. It knows all about me and turns me inside out. Stirs me, stuns me. Makes sense of the nonsense, describes the life I long to live, calls the best out of me. Fascinates me and mystifies me. Makes me weep sometimes. And occasionally makes me laugh out loud and thank God that I’m alive. I’m a bit tired of people knocking it, the Bible. It’s pure gold to me. I’m honoured to hold it in my hands right now. I’m humbled that people died so I could read this thing and meet the God who made me. (Mike 2013)

Sad End to the New Community Hall

by Colin Dexter

Since 2016 there has been an ongoing project to build a new community hall on the Ty Sign Estate

Planning permission had been granted and the project represented significant investment into the community.

The Community hall would have been be open to the public for hire including toddler groups, sport & dance groups and groups involved in health & education and OAPs.

However, this project will no longer be going forward as Caerphilly Council decided on October 13th 2021 not to grant the lease.

THE BIBLE PROJECT

by Colin Dexter

Additionally I have to mention The Bible Project. During one of the discussions, The Bible Project was mentioned as I had suggested I haven’t and wouldn’t be likely to read the Bible. But a kids Bible maybe more my level; so I could understand whats going on and have an informed view on its content, rather than a view on what I have been told it says. During this discussion TBP was recommended to me, and I have to say its great. I have been watching their videos and listening to the podcast. Its presented really well. You don’t need to be a Christian or a ‘believer’ to listen/watch it. It is presented in a simple and fairly easy to digest way (I have watched the videos 2-3 times though). So I would recommend checking them out if you’d like to know more – thebibleproject.com Mike Dec 2018

CAP (Christians against Poverty)

by Colin Dexter

So far this year CAP UK helped 1,005 people become debt free. We think each and every one of them deserves a cheer! 🎉-CAP is on a mission to equip people with the skills and support they need to break free from poverty. No matter how bad things might be, there’s always hope.-So if you know someone who could use help getting out of debt, let them know they can call us for free on ☎️ 0800 328 0006☎️.-When our Debt Coaches first visit a new client’s home, they aren’t just there to offer our award-winning debt counselling service.-If the cupboards are empty, they can access emergency food deliveries. If the client needs a friendly face to talk to, who understands their situation, volunteer befrienders are ready to step in.💪-The care offered by our Debt Centres is holistic, which is why we’re able to see so many lives completely changed.
